Who I Am

I’m Katie Baney, a proud De Pere resident, De Pere High School graduate, and working mom raising my family right here in the community I love. After graduating from UW-Madison, I returned to De Pere in 2021 with my husband to raise our children in the same tight-knit area where I grew up. My career has been dedicated to protecting our constitutional freedoms - from my work in Washington DC to my current role as Managing Director of Government Affairs at Delta Defense, where I advocate for responsible gun owners and the Second Amendment.

What I’m Running For

I’m running for Wisconsin State Senate in District 1 to put Wisconsin Families First. I want to ensure northeast Wisconsin remains one of the best places in America to live, work, and raise a family. I will deliver practical results on the issues that matter most to working parents: lowering costs, protecting parental rights, and creating opportunity right here at home.

And Why Now…

After a lot of prayer and encouragement from my husband, children, family, and community, I realized it’s time to step up. With rising costs, parental rights under pressure, and so much at stake for the next generation, I can no longer sit on the sidelines. Sometimes it just takes a mom to get it done in Madison.

Where I Stand

The issues I hear about most at kitchen tables across the district.

Affordability

Working families across northeast Wisconsin are struggling with rising costs. Skyrocketing property taxes, utility bills, and grocery bills. 

  • I will fight to provide real relief by supporting efforts to end the 400-year property tax increase on day one. 

  • We will rein in out-of-control utility costs so families can afford to stay in their homes, and I will support nuclear energy initiatives. 

  • I will also expand the new employer-provided childcare tax credit to make quality childcare more accessible and affordable for working parents.

Jobs

Ensuring Northeastern Wisconsin remains a great place to raise a family starts with great jobs. 

  • I will support efforts to cut red tape and streamline regulations, making it easier for small businesses to be successful and pass their legacy to the next generation.

  • We will eliminate excessive DNR regulations to ensure our family farms can thrive.

  • I will work to fully fund earn-while-you-learn apprenticeships and workforce training at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College.

Education

Parents, not Madison bureaucrats, should decide what their children are taught and how they are raised. 

  • I will introduce and champion the passage of a Parents’ Bill of Rights in cooperation with our next Governor Tom Tiffany that gives families full access to curriculum, clear opt-out rights, and notification requirements for sensitive topics.

  • We will eliminate classroom indoctrination through a comprehensive review of DPI practices and policies, and we will ensure our students are focused on learning rather than on sensitive political issues and topics.

  • I will ensure we hold our schools and DPI accountable for classroom performance metrics. 

  • I will fight to expand school choice opportunities for Wisconsin families.

MAHA

Making our children and families healthy again is vital to ensuring the long-term success of Northeastern Wisconsin. 

  • I will always fight to ensure that the personal and religious vaccine exemptions remain in place for all Wisconsin residents. 

  • I will be an advocate for informed consent and always stand against government health mandates. 

  • We will work to ensure that healthcare cost transparency is implemented in Wisconsin.

Constitutional Freedoms

Our rights come from God and are enshrined in our Constitution. It is vital that we protect our constitutional freedoms and defend them against any legislative efforts that erode these inalienable rights.

  • I will never support any legislation that restricts your Second Amendment rights. 

  • I will never support any effort to curtail your free speech. 

  • I will champion religious freedom and the right to live out your faith.
